Displaying RSS Feeds on Your Web Page

RSS feeds have made it very convenient to syndicate information from various sources. Most of websites and services that publish fresh content, such as ezines, press release, new agencies, blogs make their content available thru RSS feeds. As new content is published the RSS feed gets updated automatically.

Adding RSS feeds to web pages has many advantages. Let us say you have added RSS feeds from a popular ezine on one of your web pages.

The content of the web page is automatically updated as the ezine makes new content available via RSS feeds. Every time search engine spiders crawl your web page they are likely to find the web page updated.

The visitors to your web site will also find new content on every visit and they might be tempted to visit your web page more often.

You do not have to bother about writing fresh content as RSS feeds are updated automatically.

Earlier I had written an article on adding RSS feeds to a web page using java script. While this method makes fresh content available to the readers, the content of the feed cannot be read by search engine spiders. Therefore the web page does not get the benefit of changing content from the search engines.

On the other hand php based installation makes it possible for spiders to notice the changing content of the web page. This article is a follow-up of my previous article which outlines simple steps to put RSS feeds on a web page.

For the purpose of this article I have chosen the free version of software available from CaRP. The software can be downloaded from this site:

http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/

The instruction manual which comes with the package gives detailed instructions for installing and running the software. Additional information is available from the site. While there are several options available for using the software, I am showing here the simplest steps to load and run the software:

1. Download the software on your computer. It comes in a zip file. After unzipping save the available folders and files on your computer. These files and folders will be available carp (folder), img (folder), carpsetup.php, README.html .

2. Upload all the files and folders to the root directory of your website. This can be done by using FTP. If uploading is done file by file, ensure that the names of the files and folders, and location of files in their folders do not change.

3. Run the setup file carpsetup.php from you web browser.

4. A new page will be displayed. There are two options given there and both are fairly simple to work with. The file based cashing option is sometimes easier to set up since you don't have to create a database and copy and paste the setup code into carpconf.php . You could try this option first and if you face any problem you can choose the other option which is based on mySQL database.

The following steps are for mySQL database option.

5. Create a new mySQL database.

6. In step 4 above select mySQL database option. Another new page will open in which you have to fill the details of mySQL database. Click on Create Database Tables.

7. The page which opens now will have code which has to be put on the web page where you want to show RSS feed. The code will be displayed in a gray box.

8. Within the code there is setup code. This setup code should be pasted into a file called carpconf.php . The file will be available in carp directory. On the html script of this file locate the line //Add configuration code that applies to all themes here. Just below this line paste the setup code.

9. Choose a web page where RSS feed has to be displayed. The file name of the page should have .php extension. If your page has .html or .htm extension, you can try replacing only the extension with .php . Normally this should not change the way the page appears in a web browser. If you encounter any problem you could make a new web page with .php extension.

10. At appropriate location of the web page, where you want RSS feed to be displayed, paste the code in the html script of the page. From there you can remove the setup code. It is not required to be added to all pages once it has been added to carpconf.php page in step 8 above.

11. If you now open your web page in the web browser it will start showing the RSS feed which comes along with the package. For changing this to RSS feed of your choice you will need to make changes in the code you have entered in step 10. In the code there is a URL after CarpCasheShow. Change this URL with the URL of RSS feed you wish to display.

Now the web page will display the RSS feed of your choice. You can choose to display more feeds on the same page or have separate pages for RSS feeds for different sources.

You can see this page on my website on which RSS feed has been added using exactly the steps shown here.

http://www.sanjay-j.com/RSSFILE/homebusinesspop.php

You can see some more pages from the links on left column of this page.

I have tried to make the process easy to follow. You can always refer to more detailed instructions which come with the package. Take advantage of the free content available and use them to boost your page positioning and traffic to your website.

Napoleon Dynamite (DVD) Review

One of the more absurd movies of the decade, Napoleon Dynamite nonetheless manages to be a hilarious comedy in its own right. Featuring a unique brand of alienated-teenage humor, the film relies more on its well-timed pauses and character body language than on zinging one-liners. If you enjoy its subtle humor, then Napoleon Dynamite is a film you'll find utterly hilarious. Otherwise, it might cause boredom or outright confusion. The film has a near non-existent storyline, but what it lacks in plot, it makes up for with its witty and hilarious comedy sequences

Jon Heder plays the title role of Napoleon Dynamite, an estranged and nerdy high school youth living with his grandmother and older brother, Kip (Aaron Ruell), in Preston, Idaho. Sporting a clueless, unchanging facial expression throughout the movie, Napoleon simply glides through life, getting kicked around, pushed into lockers, and watching life pass by. When a Spanish student named Pedro (Efren Ramirez) moves into town, Napoleon befriends the social outcast. The two drone on and on about myriad subjects, such as who to take to the upcoming dance. Fellow socially-challenged student Deb (Tina Majorino) becomes the object of their affections.

Meanwhile, Kip trolls the Internet chat rooms in search of women, and Napoleon's Uncle Rico (Jon Gries) moves in with the boys while their grandmother is away. Uncle Rico's own exploits add to the hilarity of a film with little in the way of substance, at least until Pedro decides to run for class president against the school's most popular girl, Summer (Haylie Duff). Now, Napoleon and Pedro must work against all odds to win the school election

The true strength of Napoleon Dynamite is its clan of outrageous characters, characters that are so outrageously ridiculous that every viewer can point out the mirror image of that character from his own high school yearbook or current life experience. The arrested social development of Napoleon and his friends are amplified for effect within the film's context, drawing the viewer into a Lord of the Flies world of Darwinian adolescence. The humor is sometimes subtle, and Napoleon Dynamite is not to be confused with an Academy Award winning drama. But if you like stupid movies such Dumb And Dumber, then this is the film for you.

Napoleon Dynamite is a unique comedy which pushes the boundaries of plot-challenged, immature filmmaking. In short, you'll love it. Most of the characters are so pathetic, you'll find yourself laughing at them simply because they exist. One of the biggest surprises of 2004, Napoleon Dynamite is an oddball comedy that definitely ranks as a must-see movie

Website Marketing Strategies - One Way Links

One of the best website marketing strategy is having great search engine positions in all major search engines. Every webmaster's goal is to have thousands of visitors every day. And the best way to receive targeted traffic is trough search engines. Today, it's well known that link popularity is a very important factor in achieving good positions. So any webmaster that has a site, want's as many inbound links as it's possible.

There are two kind of inbound links: one way links and reciprocal links. In this article I will try to show you some advantages of one way links and some good tested methods to get them.

First of all you should know that any link that points to a website is like a vote from the search engine's point of view.

1. The best method to get many optimized one way links is to write great articles and submit them to article directories. You'll just have to place a link to your site in the end of the article or in the resource box. The great thing about this article based one way links is that they all come from only content pages. The article will be related to your site and it will contain your desired keywords. Increasing your link popularity with this powerful links will give your site great search engine positioning and also lots of targeted visitors. This website marketing strategy will bring you amazing results.

2. Writing articles is the easy way to get one way links. The more difficult way to achieve them is to ask for them over the net. You can spend some time looking for sites that are related to yours and sending an email to the webmasters. If you can convince them that their visitors could be interested in what you have on your site than the webmaster will place link on his site. This method could be really time consuming but it can bring you quite good results.

3. If you have great content on your site or a useful tool webmasters will link to you to offer their visitors new information and utilities.

4. Another method would be writing testimonials for services that you used. If you used a product, read a book, you can send a testimonial to the website owner and place a link to your site in the end. This method is quite useful because it will bring you lots of traffic. The visitors that are interested in buying the product usually want to know more about the person that left the testimonial.

All in all, if you are looking for a good website marketing strategy, than one way links will satisfy your needs. This links will boost up your search engine positions and will bring you tons of targeted visitors.

Book Review: Now, Discover Your Strengths

There seems to be no lack of the number of books written about personality traits, talents and how to more effectively manage personnel to the advantage of the organization. However, Marcus Buckingham, coauthor of the book First, Break All the Rules, and Donald O. Clifton, Chair of the Gallup International Research & Education Center, now provide managers with a positive approach to help identify and utilize strengths of individuals to the benefit of the organization in their bestselling Now, Discover Your Strengths. The book maintains that this unique, positive approach of focusing on strengths is far more effective in achieving success than eliminating weaknesses, given that we all have inherent strengths and natural weaknesses no matter what positions we might have. For example, the book points out, it does not matter if you are Bill Gates or Tiger Woods. True, these are individuals with tremendous talents that have made them well known in their respective fields, but they also have weaknesses that play into the mix. It would seem our brains are programmed by nature from early childhood, no matter how good our nurture, to start being selective in a few key areas. It is as nature intended it to be. Without being selective, and allowing many of the billions of connections we are born with to lapse into disrepair, we would become dysfunctional with information overload. Therefore, it is understandable that with sufficient practice, while we might be able to learn different tasks well, we will never be great in these areas unless we have a natural innate talent for them.

Unfortunately, most of us do not have a good sense of our talents, let alone the ability to effectively use our strengths to our advantage. Rather, most of us spend our lives becoming all too aware of our weaknesses and spend our time trying to deal with our flaws, while neglecting our innate talents. However, most original and potentially most revealing, to address this problem, Now, Discover Your Strengths provides access to a web-based interactive questionnaire, developed by the Gallup Organization, that quickly identifies your top 5 (out of a total of 34) positive "personality themes", such as: Achiever, Deliberative, Harmony, Empathy and so forth that you might naturally posses. The book goes on to elaborate how each of the 34 unique themes can be identified, complete with individual profiles describing how each might act and what each might "sound like." As each sees the world through their own strengths filter, it is easy to have friction between different individuals within the same department or organization, because we all see the world, and how it should look, so differently. While one may hear what someone else is saying, they may not be able to assimilate it into their own world effectively. This is why partners or advisors are often so effective, as they ad balance to the limits of others. One word of caution however: do not buy this book used if you intend to take the preference test. There is a unique, one-time code that comes with each copy of Now, Discover Your Strengths, which is absolutely necessary in order to access the website's resources. The book has limited value without the ability to take the online test. However, the test alone is well worth the price of the entire book just by itself. With this resource, you will better understand how to build a "strengths-based organization" by capitalizing on the fact that such traits are already present among those within it.

With an estimated 8 out of 10 people in this country not really in a position to capitalize on their strengths and talents, chances are most of us could benefit from reading this book. As most of us fail to capitalize on our strengths, it is not surprising that most departments in any company, no matter the size of the organization, are not operating at even par performance. The risk doing nothing is costly- not only in lost productivity, but in job satisfaction, employee retention and absenteeism and so on. This groundbreaking, resourceful book is easy to read in short concise chapters. Along with the associated preference test, Now, Discover Your Strengths, is a positive cost effective solution in resolving problems, and helping each employee achieve his or her full potential. This is must read for managers and office teams who want a win-win solution in improving their own departments, as well as the lives of those who work for them.

Effectively Using Articles to Market

In the short history of Internet Marketing, using articles to sell has always been one of the best and easiest ways to market a business or website at little or no cost. This will hold true in the future just as it does now.

Article Marketing works with a domino effect. One article is written, and it travels from your computer to several article banks, providing back links to your website. From there other website owners copy the article, with the authors information included, and publish it in their newsletters or on their websites. The article may even end up as part of a compilation for an informative ebook.

The important thing is that the article spreads far and wide-or becomes viral. This accomplishes many things. This provides you with back links to your site, as mentioned above, which helps with search engine optimization. Since your author's information, or resource box as it is called, is at the bottom of the article, your website gains increased traffice and greater public awareness.

Writing articles accomplishes a couple more things that are important in ecommerce today. First, writing and distributing articles helps to establish you as an expert in your chosen topicand secondly, it helps to build a 'relationship' with people who read your articles, gaining their trust.

Writing and distributing at least one article per week to the various article banks is common with successful internet marketers. They may use articles that they wrote for their newsletters then offer them out for distribution. If the business owners can not write well, or don't have the time to write their own articles, they typically hire some other writer to create the articles for them.

The articles that are distributed by successful people are informative and well written. These are not sales letters disguised as articles but instead are vehicles providing helpful information, with the author's information at the bottom, including a link to the website. This in turn gets readers to visit the marketer's websites.

Elements Articles Must Have To Drive Traffic to Your Web Site!

The importance of articles in the success of today's internet based companies is immeasurable. They are the life blood of product promotion and drive traffic to commercial web sites. Articles are key elements in making web sites produce profits. And business owners must include them in their marketing campaigns in order to create credibility for themselves and their product or service.

Submitting articles for publication creates links to your web site resulting in higher ranking on the search engine result pages. The higher a site ranks the bigger slice of the traffic flow pie they receive. With increase traffic to your web site comes more profit and potential for producing other income streams as well.

It is not enough to just stuff your site with articles; there are other elements to be considered as well. You need these additional elements to obtain the maximum benefit articles can provide. A well written article will peak the interest of site visitors and keep them coming back for more. These added elements can also prompt visitors to recommend your site to others.

Here are four tips to help you spice up your articles to produce more traffic that will result in increased attention to your site.

1. Keywords and Keyword Phrases.

An article must be centered on keywords and keyword phrases. Visitors to your site are looking for something specific. Their at your site because they may have been sent there via a search engine as a result of typing in a keyword or phrase they were looking for (e.g. Toyota Camry, Tax Lawyer etc).

You need content on your web site that has the keywords that are related to what visitor's are searching for. For example, if you maintain an auto parts site, you must have the auto parts listed in your article. Look for tools on the internet that can help you determine what keywords and keyword phrases are mostly sought after. You can use these tools to determine what keywords to use and write about.

2. Keyword Density

You must use the keywords and keyword phrases you choose throughout your web site content. Keyword density is important for search engines to "feel" their way to your site. Web site content should have at least ten to fifteen percent keyword density for search engines to rank them high in their results.

Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase is used in an article. The number varies depending on the number of words used in an article. An effective article must have a keyword density that is not too high or too low. With a very high density, the essence of the article is lost and may turn off a reader as well as search engines. It comes off as overeager, and a low number may be ignored by the search engines.

3. Good Article Content

Like what is stated above, you cannot just riddle an article with keywords. They must also be regarded as good reading material. Articles must be able to entertain people as well as provide good information and help for their needs. Articles should be written well with correct spelling and good grammar. If you want people to trust you, make sure your writing is well thought out.

People respond well to figures, facts and statistics. Try to get great information and as many facts as you can. A good and well written article will boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen field or topic. As more people believe in you. They will be able to trust you and your products.

4. Linking Articles

Here's another important thing to remember. If you are going to submit articles to e-zines and/or contribute your articles to newsletters and other sites, DON'T ever forget to include a link to your site. A little resource box with a brief description about you and your site should always be placed right after the articles you submit. If people like your articles, they will most likely click on the link directing them to your site.

How to Conquer Intimidating Goals

"Oh that would be too hard for me -- I could never learn to do that."

We've all heard these words... you may even have said them yourself. Tackling new skills can feel intimidating. But we only feel intimidated because we overestimate the task and underestimate our own abilities. We aren't confident enough in our natural abilities. Take learning to drive for example.

Today, millions of very mentally un-gifted people got into automobiles and drove them. And most of them had no accident today. So how hard can it be?

Or maybe you're thinking of writing a book. Millions of people every year write books.

Millions more
save money
start businesses
find jobs
lose weight
get into shape
discover someone to love
get married
find a way to attend school
start new careers

And many other things you may have been thinking are too hard, too complicated, too far beyond you.

The truth is, they're not beyond you at all.

DO THIS:
========

What have you been holding yourself back from doing? No, you don't have to list EVERYTHING you're putting off. Just take the top one.

First:
======

Whatever it is, write it down on a piece of paper.

Second:
=======

Now think of somebody who isn't particulary smart, but who is now doing the very thing you want to do.

Been putting off learning to drive? Look at all the idiots on the road who somehow manage to get from here to there without wrecking the countryside.

What about marriage? True, most people botch it completely, but many millions actually do get it right and live in happiness.

Or maybe you're putting off starting your own business. Same thing -- you've met people barely clever enough to get in out of the rain, but they have businesses. And they haven't gone bankrupt -- at least not yet.

Chances are, the one thing you're lacking is not intelligence, nor ability, nor talent. Training is no real stumbling block, either, since people regularly go get the same training you're wanting.

No, you're probably only lacking permission. You're waiting around for somebody to validate you, then pick you up and prove to you that you can do it.

It ain't gonna happen that way. The good news is, it doesn't HAVE to happen that way.

All it takes is just deciding you'll do it. Then just begin.

Several years ago someone told me a great two-step formula for success in any field.

Step one is start; step two is don't stop.

So we come to...

Third:
======

Make a beginning, no matter how awkward, then just keep moving forward in the direction you want to go.

Honestly, it's just about that simple.

While great intelligence can make things simpler, it can also make things much more difficult if you never learn to use it FOR yourself instead of against.

Please notice that beginnings are almost always awkward. That's okay. Give yourself permission to be a beginner when you begin. And if you feel a compulsion to be perfect, then just be a perfect beginner.

But do keep moving... forward.

Letter to Maya Angelou - Review

Letter to Maya Angelou is a book that is intended to entice the readers attention and provoke them to delve into deep thought on environmental and society issues.

One hundred breath-taking, intimate photographs of nature scenes have been included in this book. Beautiful shots of flocks of birds just taking off in flight, enchanting forests, stunning autumn color and incredible sunsets were enough to make me a fan of the book.

The photos are accompanied with poetic verses, which, unfortunately, did not strike a cord in me. Honestly, I did not even understand many of the verses. Overall, though, it was clear that the authors intent was to encourage openness to adventure, the opportunity for growth and participation in issues that matter. I really liked a few statements in particular, "Let your heart be your guide, and the brain a tool" and "Its always a holiday when you love".

Oluwadahusi is a man who has been juggling many hats for some time - from being a lawyer, author and poet, to the more rewarding efforts as a teacher and father. He warns his readers that "any apparent disorder in any of the text, lack of punctuation" was done with the intent to provoke the reader to fill in the blanks for themselves.

Paying Attention

Being a spiritual teacher has continually frightened me. Not because I don't want to do it but that I don't feel adequate for the job. And yet, the role unwittingly is engaged by me as I seek out truths for our lives, who we are, what we're here to do, and other such questions.

The biggest problem is that while it may be easy to tell someone what to do, we can often times recognize that doing it ourselves is not always so easy. This can be a good thing though for the teacher to experience. It permits the student the luxury of receiving compassion from a teacher who understands the difficulties that this quest will involve.

As I wondered today about some simple events leading to these thoughts, I found myself querying the lack of progress in my life in the past. What came up was, "Have I been paying attention?" I realized immediately that a significant part of the problem was that I had not been paying enough attention. For that matter, I think most of us don't pay enough attention.

Paying attention to what? Good question to ask. I don't think that we pay enough attention to ourselves. We're so busy trying to do something, prepare for something, get ready for something, compete for something, to get ahead, to fit in, be a part of the crowd, wondering what other people think, that we forget to pay attention to the most important person in our life: Our own Self. How do you do that?

Oh... good question! Really good question! How do you pay attention to your own self? Well, I have noticed that when I stopped trying so hard and slowed down long enough to pay attention, I began to notice something extraordinary going on in my mind. Yes, many conversations happening within the creative mind: Interesting, conflicting, fearful, worrying, funny, fantastical conversations with two to three sides. Ever notice that? I'm sure you have.

Here's the real kicker. When you can notice all these internal conversations that you're having with yourself, try to notice the quiet one. There is another part of self that sits and watches all this crap going on and around "itself" inside your mind. Who do you think that quiet one is? Really? Who?

That's the spiritual you. The one that wishes you'd stop bickering with your self, your life, and stop listening to all the crap the outside world fed you. That is the one that wants you to trust you - that quiet you - the one that knows who you are and what you are here for. Have you learned to trust that quiet one? We always seem to pay much more attention to the noisy shouters in our minds. I challenge you to pay closer attention to the real you.

Top 9 Causes Of A Blushing Face

1. Embarrassment

It's almost impossible to avoid flushing or blushing when we feel embarrassed. Either when we least expect it or even worse when we do expect it. When you next feel embarrassment try to remember that your face turning red is 99.9% common and the only discomfort you will feel is the embarrassment itself and not the so called shame of a red face.

2. Exercise

How many people do you know who don't turn a different shade of pink from a vigorous work out? Whether it's running for 20 mins on a piece of gym equipment or making love - we all go red and suffer a flushing face during exertion.

3. Anxiety and Phobias

The triggers that cause anxiety or phobic reactions make us feel uncomfortable and stressed out. These feelings can cause an increase in blood flow and pressure which ultimately results in the reddening of the face. If you can relate to this then the only plausible solution is to tackle the underling psychological issues that cause such physical reactions.

4. The fear of blushing

Following on from point 3, the physical reactions from psychological triggers such as anxiety, phobias or stress can often self manifest. This means that the mere fact that you become self conscious about your flushing then becomes a problem in itself. No longer are you flushing because of the original cause, but you are now experiencing a "second tier" of flushing due to the fact that you are anxious about the fact that you are flushing in the first place.

5. Frustration

Frustration is the distant relative of stress. As we know, stress can cause high blood pressure and as such, frustration can and often does cause flushing. Even classic cartoon characters are given facial redness expressions to portray frustration.

6. Sadness

Often sadness and in its extremity, crying, can cause a higher volume of blood to rush to the face.

7. Happiness and laughter

Many people, when engaged in uncontrollable laughter, are prone to flushing of the face. The harder we laugh the less in control we become and more importantly the less self aware we become. We let ourselves go and as laughter requires a great deal of physical and energetic resource, we tend to flush as a result.

8. Menopause

One of the most common triggers of a flushing face is most certainly a flushing face. Many women suffer intensely from flushing and hot flashes. There are many products and suggested solutions for menopause and the treatments for flushing are just a part of the market.

9. Hot n' spicy foods (and drink)

Although some people don't seem to flinch at a mouthful of chicken madras, the rest of us have to endure wild and fierce attacks of facial flushing at the first sign of eastern European cuisine. It can become annoying to say the least. For some of you reading, it can be the difference between going out and socializing and staying in with a mild Italian dish instead. It shouldn't be that way now should it?

As you can see, there are many causes of a flushing face. For some people, all of the points can seem familiar and for others, it may just be one of these points that cause you problems. Further more, for some of you; there may be something more specific that causes face flushing. Whatever it is, there is always a solution.

The deciding factor is - can you determine what it is and ultimately are you willing to do something right now to change your situation for the better? I did, you can too.

Using Your Body To Strengthen Your Mind

For thousands of years, physical disciplines like yoga, Tai Chi and Sufi Dancing have been said to increase mental and spiritual powers. If this is true, how might one explain this, and even better, how can we use this fact, practically, to enhance our lives as artists, business people, parents, and partners?

First, we have to strip away the mysticism from the activity. Not that these activities have no esoteric aspect, but rather that we have to approach them on the most down-to-earth level. The higher the tree, the deeper the roots. The taller the building, the deeper the foundations. If you want to soar, be certain that your tether is strong. So we need to start with a simple, physiological explanation (if possible!) and then suggest a way that this ties in to advanced artistic accomplishment, relationship skills, intellectual clarity, and spiritual growth.

My own enlightenment in this regard came from studying the work of Coach Scott Sonnon, the first American martial artist to train in the former Soviet Union. While there, this brilliant man met Russian sports and performance scientists who had been studying indigenous health system in the Ural Mountains for a century. There, they found movement and wellness concepts equivalent to anything in China or India. They shared many of these concepts with Sonnon, and invited him to share them in turn with Americans. Over the years, Coach Sonnon has created hundreds of books, videos and essays on his interpretations of this core knowledge.

Perhaps the single most important in terms of Body-Mind is what he calls the Flow State Performance Spiral. In order to relate this breakthrough thinking in such a short essay, well have to condense considerably:

1) All physical technique is composed of three aspects: breathing, movement, and structure.

2) Each of these aspects is controlled by the other two (breath is created by movement and structure, etc.)

3) Stress dis-integrates this structure. In other words, when you are under stress, the physiological signs will manifest in your breathing rate or shallowness, your posture, your muscle tension. This is why lie detectors work!

Before he died, Hans Selye, the creator of the stress concept, said that he had misspoken himself, that it is not stress that hurts us, it is strain. Stress is the pressure we are under. But strain is the degree to which that stress warps us out of true.

Stress is not the enemy. In fact, when handled healthfully, it is the primary trigger for growth. So the key is to avoid strain.

Lets skip around a bit to a truth about artistic and intellectual pursuits: your ability to utilize your intelligence, education, skills or talents will be in direct proportion to your ability to maintain flow under stress. Or to put it another way, in life, we are rewarded for how much stress we can handle without folding. Writers block, for instance, is nothing but a poor reaction to performance stress.

Combining these ideas, what we have is that mental and emotional balance under stress leads to excellence. Combine this with the fact that learning to cope with physical stress develops skills that are tremendously applicable to the mental arena. The most vulnerable portion of the Flow State triad (breath, movement, structure) is breathing. Proper breathing will be degraded by stress before you can detect it in posture or muscle tension. This is one of the reasons breath control is addressed in most religions and spiritual disciplines, whether this is through pranayama (yoga), exercise, hymns, ritual prayers, dance, or sacred postures.

A good yoga teacher, for instance, will place the student in a posture sufficiently extreme to force total concentration. When the student learns to relax and focus, that posture becomes relatively easy, and a more extreme posture is given. The point is to teach the student to monitor their own internal process. Fine martial arts or breathing meditation teachers use similar techniques.

The student learns to recognize the early signs of strain, and to dissipate them. NOTHING in life creates more stress than lack of oxygen, and learning to remain calm in the midst of oxygen debt will teach you to remain calm when the children are screaming, when your boss is on the rampage, when someone cuts you off on the freeway.

Or when you have a writing deadline, or when insecurity and fear hammers at the door of your resolve.

Deliberately practicing a physical discipline to enhance this quality of calmness and centeredness, while simultaneously working toward goals balanced in body, mind, and spirit, exposes you to the currents of life while helping you develop the skills and strategies necessary to excel. This, over time, leads to excellence, even in a purely mental arena.

There are numerous disciplines that will teach proper breathing under stress, and this article has listed a few. If you wish to reach your maximum potential as a mental, spiritual, and emotional being, seek one of these techniques out, and integrate it into your life. It is one of the best investments you could ever make in your future.

52 Homes In 52 Weeks

The door is open for anyone interested in acquiring a real estate fortune, thanks to a new book that shows how.

To counter the suggestion that great deals are the exception and not the rule, best-selling author Dolf de Roos and Gene Burns challenged themselves to buy one home every week for an entire year. They acquired these properties using a variety of financing and acquisition techniques, which they document in "The Insider's Guide to 52 Homes in 52 Weeks" (Wiley, $16.95, paper).

The book doesn't just chronicle what they did and how they did it. It also shows readers how they can take these techniques and apply them to their own acquisition program, whether they want to buy one house a week or just one a year.

In the beginning, the authors looked for pre-foreclosure homes and then feverishly tried to find tenants for them. Towards the end, they signed up tenants and then found houses for them to move into.

Topics in the book include how to determine your strategy and getting started; learning to ask for help; finding the right location; lease options; owner financing; pre-foreclosure and many more.

Dr. de Roos, PhD is a New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling author.

The Secret - When You Can Walk On Water , Take The Boat ( Part 30 )

Although still visibly shaken from my frightful ordeal, I continued staring at him. Suddenly, it seemed as if I were looking through different eyes than mine, as if new worlds were opening before me. I felt the presence of an extremely powerful and loving force. And then, as if by a miracle, I began to feel that I was looking at the face of God. I fell to my knees overcome with awe and whispered, Forgive me, Lord. Although I didnt believe at first, now I know that You are truly my Lord and my God.

Get up, He said, with warmth and love in His voice, No need to fall on knees and stuff like that. I raised myself as God continued. It's easy to set up barriers and retain those barriers for a lifetime. You've all built walls, not only na- tion against nation, but neighbor against neighbor, friend against friend. Youve even built walls between yourselves and me. In your present state, youve forgotten the joy and bliss of being close to me yet,if you search your deepest memories, you may have vague recollections of what it was like when the sons and daughters of God danced with joy on the morning of creation.

This isnt the only place where life forms exist.Look up into the sky some clear night and see the millions of starsuniverses within universes. Look up and you'll know that you are not alone in that vast expanse you call space. There are others, many others and all of them are my children.

While God spoke I sat motionless in absolute silence.I felt such peace and calm that I forgot about my corporation and its financial troubles. Nothing seemed important except to sit there with Him and listen.

God continued, The universe is dynamic and changing; it continues to grow. Creation never stopped; it will continue forever. Wherever you are is the center of the universe and the mid-point of eternity. Nothing is static. All things change. But I do not change. The part of you that is Me and the part of Me that is you will forever remain changeless. So,even though seasons change and worlds change, I, God, do not change.

Lord, Im overwhelmed, I said.

The Fear of Expressing Anger

There is much to learn from anger, yet many people are afraid of this feeling because they dont know how to express anger in ways that are helpful rather than harmful. I teach a process at my weekend Inner Bonding workshops called The Anger Process. This powerful process, which is described below, is not only for releasing pent-up anger in harmless ways, but for discovering what your responsibility is in any conflict with another person.

Often, when I describe this process in a workshop, some people get anxious and want to leave. They are afraid of anger and of expressing their anger. This is invariably because they come from a family where one or both of their parents or other caregivers were angry in a mean, violent way a way that caused harm to others. These people are so afraid of being like their mother or father that they repress their anger, taking it out on themselves instead of others.

Neither dumping anger on others nor repressing it and taking it out on oneself is healthy. Anger expressed in these ways is about controlling rather than learning. Venting anger on another is about controlling through intimidation and blame. Anger dumped on oneself is about controlling feelings that are harder to feel than anger, such as fear, anxiety, loneliness, or helplessness over others.

Anger is an important emotion. It is here to tell us something, to teach us how we are thinking or behaving that is not in our highest good. You may have been taught that other peoples behavior causes your anger, yet this is generally not true. Others may behave in ways that you dont like, but your anger at them is frequently a projection of how you are not taking care of yourself a way to control them rather than take care of yourself.

Its important to differentiate between blaming anger and justified anger, which is really outrage. Outrage is the feeling we have when there is injustice, such as seeing someone abuse a child. Outrage moves us to take appropriate, loving action in our own or others behalf.

Blaming anger comes from feeling like a victim and gets us off the hook from having to take personal responsibility for ourselves. This anger does not lead to learning or to healthy action.

The anger process is a way of expressing anger that leads to learning and growth. When people in my workshop want to leave rather than do the process, I explain to them that it is very important for them to reassure the frightened child within that this anger is not like their fathers or mothers anger it is not being expressed with the intent to control. It is being expressed with the intent to learn.

The Anger Process is a three-step process:

Fully express anger toward a person you are presently angry with (not in their presence!). You can yell, call names, kick something, and pound with fists on a pillow or with a bat, but you cannot harm yourself or anyone else.

Ask yourself who this person reminds you of in the past parent, teacher, sibling, friend - and then let the angry part of you again fully express the anger.

Finally - and this is the most important part - allow the angry child within to express his or her anger at you, the adult, for any ways you are not taking care of yourself in this conflict, or any ways you are treating yourself badly.

Step Three is the most important part, because it brings the issue home to personal responsibility. If you just do the first two parts, you are left feeling like an angry victim. The anger that comes from being a victim is a bottomless pit and will never lead to learning and resolution.

Once you understand that you can express your anger with an intention to learn, your fear of your own anger will go away. You dont have to repress your anger in order to not be like your parents. You can express it harmlessly in The Anger Process and learn about what your anger is trying to tell you.

Do It Till You Are Satisfied

Whatever it is, DO IT, Do it til youre satisfied is a very upbeat song that reminds us to do things that make us happy and keep us moving. Even the shoe company, Nike, uses the quote for their shoes and athletic wear of Just Do It. We have so much trouble just getting started sometimes. It is hard, isnt it? It is hard to get started in the morning, hard to start a diet, hard to leave a dead end job. It is even hard to just get up off the sofa, quit being a couch potato and actually turn the television on or off, much less get up to change the channel.

It is hard to learn to eat right, eat healthy, and eat normal portions. It is also hard to exercise, much less make time to exercise and be faithful to your program. Because it is so hard to do these things, it becomes very important to look for things that can give us incentives. That is why the song, Whatever it is, do it, and do it til youre satisfied, and shoe motto, just do it, means so much to us, because it reminds us to start.

Once we start an activity, no matter what it is, it gets much easier. It is starting the activity that makes us hesitate and put off any action. We anticipate trouble or hardship. Sometimes, we just procrastinate even getting started.

The task at hand is not as hard as we imagine it to be. Adults seem to dread starting something new, such as an exercise program that takes them outdoors to play, whereas children live to be outdoors and play. Have you ever resisted going out to shoot hoops with your son or go shopping with your daughter only to realize in the middle of doing it, how much fun you are having?

In the first part we discussed about how most of us are afraid of beginning something new. We delay any new activity and find reasons to justify the delay. We are afraid, as we understood in the first part. Why are we afraid of anything new? That is because we have a comfort zone and we do not want to leave it. We feel uncomfortable leaving our comfort zone. In this part we will discuss more about how to begin new activities.

It seems that everyday life and responsibilities leaves us with little time to play and we have forgotten how to play. Once we get the ball rolling (or the bike moving), the moving isnt so hard. After you have the pleasant feeling of achievement, it is much easier to do it the next time. How many people vow to start eating better and make plans to change to healthy eating? How many have actually even looked to see what the perfect portion size is for a man or a woman? It really isnt hard to do but you must first get started.

It is the same with giving up any bad habits. If you want to quit smoking, then you must first start by putting the pack away. If you want to start doing yoga, then you must start. The starting is always the hard part because we dread making major changes in our lives.

After a slow start, remember that once you get started it is not hard. Just begin. The task at hand is not as hard as you think. You will be pleasantly surprised how much you can accomplish once you get started. There is no one-way to start doing anything new that doesnt involve having you to just do it. Then you want to do it til youre satisfied.

New Age Spirituality Morning Has Been All Night Coming ( Part 66)

Then how come you knew what I was thinking? I asked. Our thoughts became one for a little while, so I was aware of the essence of what was in your mind. You do that all the time, you know. How often in the past few years have you been able to answer peoples questions before the questions were ever asked?

Yes,I see what you mean, I said. Now I was thinking of Mardai and the years we had spent together. Memories of the past started flowing fast and furious through my mind. But this time I wasnt going to be overcome by emotions. I was going to come over them, instead.

Marla, I have always felt that you knew my wife. There seems to be a connection between the two of you.

Yes, I know her. We know each other fairly well.

Do you know where she is now? How is she and what is she doing? My words were tumbling out so fast that Marla had to slow me down.

Easy, John, one thing at a time. She paused for a while then continued. She and I, as well as some others, have been together from the beginning, if you insist on sequential time. If you prefer to think in simultaneous time, then we are always together.

Please, Marla, dont make it too complex. Just tell me where she is and what shes doing.

There isnt much to tell. Her work with you here on the physical Earth plane was done. Had she stayed any longer, you might not have gone on to finish the job you came here to do. She felt she could do no more to help you with your work and so, she went on ahead, knowing that when you had completed the tasks you set yourself, you would join her.

Shes always near you, and even this very evening as you sat under the old tree, her presence was with you. A love that is born of eternity lasts throughout eternity. The only reality in heaven or Earth, the only thing that counts,is how deep and true our love is. Her love for you has always been true and steadfast. She helps you in your work and in your everyday life. She watches over the children and assists in their development. She is as much a part of your life now as she ever was. The only difference is that the physical presence is gone; however, the spiritual body can never die. You never lost her. Love never loses. You and Mardai are bound together by ties that span the universe itself.

It Is All About The Perfect Toy

Some of the best toys I had when I was a kid werent really even toys at all. There was a large rock by the edge a stream that ran along the back of our house. That rock was a canoe during my Native American play, a stage when I needed an audience, a fishing boat, a car, a planet, and of course, a rock in the middle of Nestaria, my beautiful make believe world where fairies came to play with me. A long stick had some great potential as did the long breezy leaves of trees and cat tails. Those memories are ones nobody could have ever purchased for me, and of course, the initiation of growing my developing imagination has paid off even today in the form of my career. As perfect as those toys were for me, I dont think many children would get overly excited to wake up Christmas morning or their birthday to find a large rock wrapped in bulky paper topped with a special stick.

At the same time, when a child is ranting and wailing and making one of those lusciously embarrassing scenes in public because they have been told that horrible temper tantrum word, “No,” I often want to suggest giving the kid a big rock and a special stick simply so they can learn that they really dont need the momentary object of their tantrum. But in todays world parents who give their children rocks and sticks for special gift giving occasions arent considered very good parents.

So, what is a person with a child to buy for to do? We all know that there are mind numbing warnings out there about the overuse of electronic toys and video games. However, these mind numbing toys can actually teach kids a few things like persistence, problem solving skills, eye hand coordination, and with appropriate parental interference, self discipline. Electronic toys really only become terribly inappropriate when a parent realizes what an excellent baby sitter it can be and allows for its near constant use. However, before purchasing any type of game console beyond the educational type, if its not your child, be sure to talk to the parent first. Its not really fair to dangle an Xbox 360 in front of the child and then force the parent to become the bad guy when they disallow its use in the home. It can get messy. Communication can prevent messes.

As for the electronic education gadgets, of which there are numerous types, there has been a tremendous leap forward in electronic education. Someone finally figured out how to make them intoxicatingly fun for kids. The pay off for these types of toys can be tremendous, as kids learn so much from them while being tricked, since they truly feel they are playing a game. You should still breeze this idea before a childs parent before running out there and snagging up electronic toys, as some parents are still resistant to the idea.

Venturing back into my land of the stick and rock for a minute, what made those the best toys in the world was their versatility. They lasted for years because they could grow with me, change with me, at my own command. As my games changed, my “toys” could change with me. Some very smart toy makers have created a few of these toys for kids that resemble actual toys and less like bits of nature. Toys that have these qualities may only last two years, but at least there is still a growing aspect that allows a kid to develop at his or her own rate while playing the games and fantasies that they construct in their minds. This type of imaginative play is phenomenally important to healthy development and learning skills.

Despite the fact that children will tell you that the best toys are those that provide them with simple entertainment, the truth is (and some day they will look back and willingly admit this) the best toys are those that encourage them to use their imagination, to create, to ponder, and even to destroy. Learning to live in this world is difficult. Learning to create in this world is a blessing. To learn to create something from nearly nothing is a huge gift. The old favorites like Legos and Play-Do are of course excellent for younger children, while art supplies, building toys, and toys that encourage creative play are perfect for school aged kids. Without the use of their imaginations, we strip children of their brightest chances, and we strip society with what they may have one day created had their imaginations been encouraged to fester and create.

Help Others Find Inner Peace

People with pessimistic attitudes go through their lives fighting their thoughts and emotions every day. If they are rejected for a job position, they feel that they are not good enough to have any job. They start to think that everyone believes they are stupid, and the cycle of pessimism traps them into psychological immobility. In fact, everyone experiences rejection at some time during their lives, but when your mind focuses on the negative aspects of a situation, it is hard to find inner peace.

The first step in finding inner peace is to think carefully about your goals. What are you trying to achieve, and what are you doing that will take you there? Can you realistically reach your goals, or are you setting goals that are far beyond your reach? Do you have any goals? By putting your priorities in order, you will be on the path to peace because only chaos can result from clutter and disorganization of the mind. You can start by setting small goals that can be easily achieved. Then, instead of focusing on failure, you can see the good job youve done in reaching your goal. If you fail to reach a goal, use this situation to learn how to do better next time. Dont wallow in your failure.

When you feel good about yourself, you will have an easier time finding peace of mind. Peace is essential for happiness. If you constantly feel sad, you are living under a great weight that brings you down to a point where you could sink into a permanent state of self-pity. Self-pity only encourages negative thinking. Remember, you are not the only person facing rejection or hurt in life. There are other people much worse off than you are. People with negative thinking miss out on inner peace because they let every little setback throw them off track. They criticize themselves for no real reason and go down a road that only leads to misery.

Sometimes, hearing the word no is a good thing. If youve lost out on a job, maybe that is for the best. What if you had been awarded a job position only to find out that it was not what you really wanted, or that you couldnt do it as well as you thought? Of course, maybe you like being involved in situations that may lead you to harm. Maybe someone says no to you to keep you from hurting yourself. Maybe they say no because they love you.

Every life is full of rejection, so we would do well to turn our rejections into positive actions. Taking action can lead you to inner peace because activity makes you feel more positive about a situation. Positive attitudes result in peaceful states of mind. If you are feeling bad about yourself all the time, you need to break the cycle and get out of the habit of doing so. You can train your mind to think more positively. It will take work and effort, but it will lead you to inner peace, and this will be worthwhile.

Plug in with a Purpose

Imagine that each person on this planet carried with them a teaspoon of soil or rock from Mt. Everest. Certainly Mt. Everest would shrink! Those individual teaspoons of material from the tallest mountain on Earth now in the pockets of billions of people also wouldn't mean much. Well I suppose each of us could put that small amount of mineral material into a bottle and keep it as a souvenir. But like most souvenirs we collect, we tire of dusting them and they become added to the already crowded drawer or box of meaningless, useless items. A teaspoon of dirt, in a jar, in a drawer, that by itself, means little.

But, wait a minute. What about it's P-0-T-E-N-T-I-A-L?

From Webster's Dictionary:

"Contribute": to give or supply in common with others

What if each person on this planet brought their teaspoon of Mt. Everest to the site where it used to stand and contributed it? What would happen? Why, we would build the highest, mightiest mountain on EarthTOGETHER.

Good thought. Doubtful it would happen. Why not? Let's explore that. We can start by applying this Mt. Everest metaphor to our own lives.

Modern times finds we human beings have, at least in the developed world, become rather insular (just think of the word "insulate"). We cocoon in our homes. We don't have time, we don't have enough money, we are tired. We don't have any time to ourselves, we go to work and slave for someone else's goals and often receive a pay cheque for much less than we feel we are worth. We provide for our families, do the myriad of tasks and chores in and for the home. Sacrifice for and fearfully protect our children. We amass debt to do many of these things. We feel trapped in a vortex of stress. And yet, with all this striving for what we think we want, if we are honest, we still feel unfulfilled and probably guilty for feeling that way!

Something elusive is still missing.

We are living our "separateness". We are not acknowledging our "interconnectedness".

We avoid asking ourselves "Who am I, why am I really here?" because we already know that we don't know or are afraid the answers will jolt us out of what we think is our comfort zone. Finding out may take more of that precious time we don't' have or take more of that effort we are too tired to perform! It's one of those conundrums: we want to know, but we don't want to know because it may shake up our lives, it may cause our lives to.here it comes..CHANGE! And human beings don't like change, yet it is the one thing we can all count on. So there we are, unfulfilled vs. having to change. Yup, it's scary. But so worth it!

Have you ever listened to Nelson Mandela, Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Mother Theresa, the Dali Lama or so many other highly spiritually evolved human beings? And I mean really listened to them? Would you say all of them know "who" they are? And are they living their purpose, their passion? Of course. We can 'feel' that they are. All of them have their roots in different countries, all of them teach the same message, which is, we are all interconnected. We were not put on this earth to be separate, we are all teaspoons of the Whole. And the way we can come together and build a "Mt. Everest" world of harmony is through contribution.

We likely think of ways in which to contribute as the usual volunteering our time or donating our money. Heck, we receive unsolicited begging for money via telemarketing phone calls and the postal system on an endless basis! Of course charitable organizations do need our donations of time and money, but there is another, more intangible way to "add your teaspoon". It is through fulfilling your life's Purpose. This means:

Living life intentionally, not by accident

Capturing the essence of what it means to be fully alive

You have a powerful direction in your life

You make choices that increase the value of life to yourself and others

Being fulfilled today and every day

Living your life based on your values

Due to our spiritual interconnectedness, there is no true life Purpose that does not include contribution. And there is no contribution that does not include reward for you, tangible or intangible. You are here to make a difference on this planet. Wouldn't you like to know what you will leave behind, the difference you will make in the lives of those you touch?

Your life Purpose is an underlying theme to your life, not a specific job, parenting or partnering. Your Purpose can be fulfilled through these, but it is not these. Your life Purpose is not to be a title, it is to do something, something that contributes. Never underestimate your power, your "teaspoon" has the potential to become Mt. Everest! You can be fulfilling your life Purpose with as little as an acknowledgment, a warm touch, a phone call, a letter, a kind smile or word, lending an ear, anything that contributes to the mental, physical or emotional well being of another living soul. Or conversely, refraining from judgment, harsh words within or without the presence of the target, anything that you know, deep in your heart, would be hurtful to another.

The special wording of your purpose is uniquely yours. Certain words have specific meaning to each of us. When you speak your purpose, something physical happens to you, you know this is you. Others hearing it may not feel that power, because it is not theirs, but it is not meant to impress anyone else, it is the Universe speaking to your heart and that is all that matters.

Who Lynn is and what I am here to do is the following:

"I am a strong and free woman, leading people to discover their true value"

When I say this I feel an angel kiss my forehead, my heart is full and I have such a peace and understanding. And even better, I know I am contributing to the lives of others.

Up to now, I have been fulfilling my life Purpose to about 80% potential in the career aspect of my life. It is through Personal Life Coaching that I know I am fulfilling my life's Purpose 100%. I know the potential of my 'teaspoon' and through my Purpose I hope to touch as many lives as I can reach to enable them to know their potential as well.

How is Directory Submission helpful in Search engine optimization?

What is directory submission? How does it help in the web site promotion? Many think directory submission is similar to the data entry jobs and they assume it to be very simple and easy. Sites like yahoo, Google etc have huge web directories similar to the phone directory we use. These directories are store houses of relevant information about business concerns and web sites all over the world. Thus for promoting a web site its details are submitted to the directory in exchange for a small fee.

Again this directory submission can either be done manually or implemented through automated services. When someone submits his web site to a directory human editors have to go through them to check quality and other guidelines. With millions of web sites coming in daily it is not easy or it is very stressful to go through them and check for quality. So automated directory submissions was invented to check for the submission guidelines. The advantage of this automated submission is that it is easy and less time consuming. It automatically checks and submits without delay.

But what really matters is whether the web directories can accept automated directory submission as they are very strict about the guidelines. Moreover if the category to which the submission is made is not chosen properly then it loses its purpose. You cannot expect an automotive service to analyze which category your submission is best suited dont you? Thus though the time factor favors automated directory submission it still has a long way to go to outbid manual services.

Trigger off the Preparation for Your College Writing Right Away

"By the time students graduate high school, they should be able to produce more than disorganized self-expression or Internet chat," said Marilyn Whirry, former national teacher of the year and a member of the board that oversees the national assessment.

In 2003, the National Assessment of Educational Progress released the results of the writing assessment test, which aimed at identification the level of writing proficiency and lexical competence of fourth-, eighth- and twelfth- graders. This report provided the information on how good students could write essays, communicate information and provide arguments.

The results showed that fourth- and eighth- graders have become better writers in comparison with the previous years, whilst, the level of twelfth-graders writing proficiency has significantly dropped, the proportion of 12th-graders who reached at least the basic level dropped from 78 to 74 percent. Undoubtedly, the declining performance among seniors reflected a deep problem, which every single English teacher faced as a serious challenge.

Perhaps, this situation has slightly changed in the recent years. Though, the bare fact that overwhelming majority of seniors cant convey well-organized ideas remains. Therefore, the importance of good writing skills have not decreased lately, not to mention that with each year to come the significance of good writing and editing skills essentially augments. Now good writing skills are considered to be fundamental for success in college and the workplace.

This problem is especially acute for high school graduators who are going to apply to college and acquire higher education. No matter what faculty you have chosen, you have to be ready for writing-across-the curriculum. College professors and tutors suppose writing to be an indispensable part of thinking and learning. Technical reports, research papers, term papers, and essays will become your constant home assignments mainly in every subject. No wonder that at college good writing skills is a must until you dont have a research paper guru who does all the rough work for you.

What is college writing all about?

Sure that the experience of a research paper writing etched indelibly into your memory from high school. However, at college it will significantly change and will be associated with: late nights before the paper is due, sitting in pale light in front of your computer, a huge stack of books propped next to your desk, drinking endless cups of coffee, and racking your brains on a good thesis statement appropriate for your paper.

Remember that a college education builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in early years. College writing and high-school writing have crucial differences, which every college applicant should be aware of. Indeed, the transition from high-school writing to college one is not always smooth, because standards at college are generally higher than in high school. It differs in several basic ways, at college youll be asked to analyze the reading, to make a worthwhile claim, to support your claim with good reasons that are organized to present your argument.

How to sharpen your writing skills and get ready for college

It is well-known that writing is an acquired skill that needs crafting. All you need to start writing and to write well is perseverance, passion, and a good sense of right and wrong. The bottom line here is never to think that writing is not your cup of tea. If you are armed with motivation, persistence, piles of paper, and a pen, consider you are quite ready for the writing process.

Remember what Alfred Kazin once said about writing: In a very real sense, the writer writes in order to teach himself, understand himself Stick to this principle throughout your preparation for college writing and use these simple strategies to conform your writing to the established patterns.

Acquire the technique of x-ray reading. Reading will improve your writing style, help you learn new vocabulary, teach you how to use punctuation marks properly, enrich you with fresh and interesting ideas that you can further use in your writing assignment, and broaden your general outlook.

You should read for both form and content. Whenever you try to take big steps in writing, you will start with reading. If you are going to write about World War II, start with reading magazines and books from the 1940s.

Bear in mind that reading of readers varies greatly from reading of writers. Good writers have to acquire the technique of x-ray reading. X-ray reading helps you see through the texts of the stories; it is all about reading the newspaper in search of under-developed story ideas and experience online a variety of new storytelling forms. X-ray reader always has a pen at hand and makes notes in the margins extensively, mark up interesting passages, ask questions to the text, return to these passages, and reflect upon the techniques used by the author.

Practice writing on a regular basis. Sure you have already heard of this piece of advice, however, it will never become obsolete: practice makes perfect. When you are in a habit of writing, essays and research papers wont seem so difficult to you. The more you write, the more perfect your writing becomes. There are several ways, which you can consider for regular writing:

- Keep the journal of your thoughts and the events of the day.
- Write the letters to the magazine and newspapers you read.
- Start a zine with your friends that are interesting to you.

Experience with rough drafting. Some writers write fast and free, accepting the imperfection of early drafts and multiple revisions. While other writers write with meticulous precision, paragraph by paragraph, combining drafting and revising steps.

A draft is a more complete version of writing assignment written in a paragraph form. You will have to bring your drafting skills to perfection in order to write your college essays effortlessly. Break every piece of writing that you compose into meaningful paragraphs that convey separate ideas. A draft is the first variant of your complete writing assignment, where you briefly blueprint the main ideas that you are going to cover in your paper. When you draft, you should remember that you create a first version of your writing assignment that will be further filled out and polished.

Master the craft of revising and clarifying. The novelist Balzac wrote dozens upon dozens of revisions in the margins of a corrected proof. Henry James crossed out 20 lines out of a 25-lines manuscript page. So, revision is a very good way to bring your writing to perfection.

Overall, there are two ways of revising and clarifying: changes that alter the meaning of the text and changes that leave the meaning impact. Remember that revision is generally a modification of the written assignment, rather than complete rewriting of the written assignment. Always conduct revisions of your pieces of writing and make sure to analyze your mistakes properly.

This set of guides for preparation for college writing will help you feel comfortable about writing essays and research papers for your college classes and boost your confidence as a writer.

Adult ADD: The End Of Sticky Messes

You have attention deficit disorder or someone close to you does, or you probably wouldn't be reading this article, right? Let's talk a bit about organization, ADD, and how you can avoid the dreaded "stuff everywhere" syndrome.

The most notorious place for attention deficit induced clutter is in your bedroom. Clothes are probably scattered over most of it, shoes may be piled sky-high, and what's a laundry hamper? Right? We know how this feels, and had the same kind of problems, but we learned that if you can create an ADD-friendly system to handle the clutter, life will be much smoother for you and for your loved ones.

If your bedroom is large enough, buy three big trash cans, about the 30 gallon size. If you can buy them in different colors, that would be ideal, but in lieu of that, what if you just spray one white; one a dark color, like navy blue or black; and one red?

Every day when you take off your clothes, decide whether they should go into the bin for white clothes, the bin for dark clothes, or the bin for colored clothes and then, just throw your stuff into the appropriate bin. How cool is that? They'll already be separated when it comes time to wash them. Plus, there's the added benefit of not walking into your bedroom and tripping over a pair of underpants.

For shoes, you can do the same kind of thing. Buy open-ended (veggie-type) bins so the shoes are easier to see, maybe one black, one brown, one colored, or just one, period. (It depends on how many shoes you have, but we ADD people are always collecting.) Here, it's the same principle. You'll be able to just toss your shoes into the bins, instead of leaving them all around.

Let's move to our ADD-littered office. What's everywhere, even on the floor? Books? Papers? Are there sticky notes all over the computer monitor or the hutch above your desk? How do you help your attention deficit brain remember your appointments?

Books need bookshelves, and people with ADD need plenty of space in them to store their books. Have one as close to your desk as possible and be sure not to overload the shelves. If a book won't fit, get rid of another so that it will and don't let your attention deficit get in the way. ADD people tend to the pack rat syndrome, too. If you haven't used the book about the joys of cooking blowfish in 6 months, you probably won't. Get rid of it, or get another bookcase.

Then, tackle those sticky papers. Get a small notebook that will fit on your desk beside you. You can buy inexpensive books or whatever you like. If you really like the book, your ADD brain will use it. But any note that you have to make during the day should go into that book--everything. Telephone numbers, quick notes to yourself, addresses. So make sure it can open flat and that pages can be turned back. Your attention deficit may drive you to that purple suede journal, but if it's like a hardback book, it won't work well. Get something that's more ADD convenient.

Then, either at the end of the day or the next morning--whatever works, but make it a routine--transfer what needs to go into your address book to your address book. Use a desk calendar, too. Write all of your appointments into the calendar and keep it directly in front of you every day. You can't make any mistakes that way, and all of your notes will be in one place if you need to refer to them later on. No more ADD panic over where you put that important phone number!

As for the papers. Gather all of them, and you'll have to take time to sort them into piles: important, not quite as important, and throw away. Because your attention deficit won't do well with the boredom this will create, get yourself a timer. Set it for 5 minutes. Go through your papers for 5 minutes every morning, then stop. Don't go one minute over. Take 5 minutes a day to file your papers in hanging files in a file cabinet or box. You'll be amazed at how much you get done in that short time. Before you know it, your paper stack will be gone.

But you'll be adding to the piles every day. Get three file bins for papers and just toss papers into one of the bins as they're received. After a while doing this, it will take less than 5 minutes to clear things up each day. How great will that be?

People with attention deficit really don't like clutter, they just have trouble dealing with boring things like filing, hanging, and putting away. Give yourself an ADD-friendly system and follow an ADD-simple routine. You'll be a much happier person for it, and your non-ADD family members will love you.

Affiliate Program Marketing: Become An Online Marketing Success

Advertising and marketing has become one of the largest and most profitable careers around. Successful advertising gurus can command huge wages by working in the creative industry. Few people would choose to argue with earning money by the bucketful doing something as simple and enjoyable as creating advertising campaigns.

The invention of the Internet has blown apart the traditions and boundaries of many of the industries and business sectors, which have become established in the real world. One of these is that of advertising, the online market is vastly different to that of the standard tried and tested methods. In itself the advertising industry has been revolutionised and brought into the technological age. One of the products of this marketing revolution is the affiliate program.

The affiliate-marketing program runs along the same fundamental principles as that of the standard media marketing. However it does have some vastly different attributes to make it almost completely unique from the traditional associations of marketing. Apart from the obvious difference that it is an online campaign, affiliate marketing is a system based around commission and diversity.

The first major difference is the way in which advertisers are paid. Rather than forking out for a huge advertising campaign from the outset, the host website only pays an affiliate as and when they produce a new customer for them. This not only provides the website with a cost free outlay but also gives the affiliate the necessary incentive to go out and find new customers for the site. Without customers the affiliate doesn't get paid, so it stands to reason that most are going to be working hard to secure valuable custom.

The second main difference is the way in which the advertising campaign is mounted. Rather than running campaigns through an advertising agency and standard media such as television, billboard and event sponsorship, it is done through a network of websites. These subsidiary websites agree to host the banners and other advertising materials, in exchange for their commission. This form of free advertising means that a company can easily spread it's advertising to an unlimited number of people from countries all over the world, through it's sheer variety and breadth of websites.

Most successful industries utilise affiliate marketing, often in line with traditional forms of advertising. Competitive markets such as that of online sports betting have used the affiliate marketing program to generate exceptional growth in businesses throughout the sector. Offering their clients a percentage of the money generated by a player throughout their lifetime on the site gives the affiliate a huge potential to earn significant money in the sports betting industry. Not only has the sports betting industry taken off as a result of it's affiliate program, but so has that of it's subsidiary marketing partner. The sports betting affiliate industry is one of the most popular and profitable for affiliates everywhere. The growth in the advertising sector has helped, both the sports betting and affiliate industries develop into successful bi-products of each other.

Why Hurry Worry? Living Life By Intuition

Learning to trust and live by our intuitive inner guidance systems is not about developing fancy party tricks to impress our friends. It is about learning to return to a life of balance that is guided from a deeper source of wisdom than our current culture has to offer.

The more "masculine" thought processes (Im not bashing individual men herewe all have masculine and feminine attributes) dominate every aspect of our culture, honoring only the linear and rational ways of thinking. As a result, we find ourselves swimming in massive debt, experiencing disharmony and dysfunction in the majority of our personal and global relationships, and finding millions of the most educated, gifted and resourced people in the world dependent on anti-depressants. All that, and at the same time we face the very real and eminent potential of an environmental disaster that could be beyond repair.

What An Intuitive Life Looks Like

Living by intuition, you begin to leave fear, doubt, immobilization and frantic action behind. Why hurry-worry? When you realize that you will know what you need to know, when you need to know it (and very often not a moment sooner), you begin to see there is no need to live in the imagined future. There is no need to plan out ten possible outcomes you dont want, one you do, and then spend precious time and energy making sure those things do or dont happen. You have the time, space, energy, and faith that you can simply enjoy the now in real-time.

Of course, youll lose a lot of the drama in your life. People will come to see you as peaceful, maybe even serene, and there wont be overly much to complain about. The old friends, stuck in their old ways, wont know what to do with you. So they will likely leave. Yet you will begin to attract new friends who have also left a good deal of the drama behind. This drawback is like complaining that someone has dumped gold on your fresh-cut lawn. But you will learn to deal with that.

Living By Faith

Where the mind will play a thousand tricks a day on you, the intuitive knowingwhich you cannot always summon on your personally preferred time table, but which is completely trustworthy when it does comenever fails. Never.

Even if the road that rises up does not take you where you thought you were going, in the end it takes you where you most wanted to go. I call this Smart Reliability because when I dream big dreams, but plan my route to accomplishing them in ways that are limited to my current understanding, my intuitive drive makes the needed adjustments so that the bigger dreams can actually come true.

Read This Before you Submit to Web Directories

As the number of websites grow everyday, it is becoming increasingly difficult for a new site to attain good rankings on search engines. Since major search engines factor link popularity heavily into their ranking algorithms, building relevant links to your site is perhaps the single most important component of search engine optimization.

For a new site with no or few inbound links, buying text links on more established related sites could provide a boost to your link popularity. But this strategy could prove prohibitively expensive, especially in a highly competitive market where you'd have to buy lots of links to catch up with the competition.

Web directory listing represents a viable alternative to link buying. Apart from driving traffic to your site through direct referrals, web directories provide one-way inbound links to your site, boosting your link popularity and ultimately improving your search rankings.

There are thousands of web directories on the net, with dozens sprouting up every day. Some are general directories; others cater to specific niches. Some are free; others charge inclusion fees. Some are free only if you provide a reciprocal link in return. Many feature both free and paid listings.

The main advantage of a paid listing is the luxury of having your site listed quickly above everyone else's. Free submissions may take several weeks or months for review. If you work on a limited budget, you may want to submit to a handful of paid directories and a few hundred free ones.

Some directories charge inclusion fees that are too high for the listing to be cost effective. When considering a paid listing, look at not only the Google PageRank of the homepage of directory, but also that of the subpage where your link will actually reside. While it may seem like a good deal to have your site listed on a PR5 directory for $15, the offer becomes far less attractive when you find out that the internal page where your link is placed is only PR2.

If you've ever submitted to web directories before, I don't have to convince you that the process is extremely tedious and time-consuming, especially when you submit to a large number of them. Unlike search engines that send out robots to index web pages, web directories rely on more detailed submission forms to gather information about your site. Since each submitted site must be reviewed by a real person, most directories require that submissions are also performed by a real person, as opposed to an automatic script. Many directories use a visual code verification process to prevent automated submissions. Apart from complying with the directory's guidelines, manual submission is the only way to ensure that your site is submitted to the proper category.

Because of the time involved in manually submitting your site and the sheer number of directories on the web, it's important that you know which directories to submit to. Obviously, you'd want to submit to only the high-PR directories and avoid the low-PR ones, right? Not really. Just because a directory has a low PR does not mean that it's not worth submitting to. The directory may be brand new and has not been around long enough to be ranked by Google. In contrast to the more established directories that continually experience a back-log of submissions, newer directories tend to review and list sites more quickly. As the directory becomes more popular, so will your link. So, don't judge a directory solely by its PageRank; rather, base your decision on the overall quality of the directory.

Another important thing to look at is whether or not the directory you submit to is search engine friendly. Search engines like static web pages whose contents stay the same regardless of who visits the page, or when they visit, not dynamic pages that are created on-the-fly. Browse to a couple of categories and look at URL in the navigation bar. If the URL looks like, http://www.godirectory.org/links.php?ax=list&sub=42&cat_id=245, it's probably not search engine friendly. An example of a static, search engine friendly URL is http://www.godirectory.org/dir/713/index.html (notice the ".html" suffix).

Another question to ask is: How easy it is to submit to the directory? How many hoops do you have to jump through to get to the submission form? When you finally get to the form, how many fields does the form have? A directory should ask for pertinent information like your name, email, URL, link title, link description, and keywords, but it should not look like a job application. With the exception of a handful of major directories like DMOZ and Yahoo, you should not have to spend more than 3 to 4 minutes to submit your site.

Another consideration is whether or not the directory has a category specific enough for your site. For optimal SEO benefits from your listing, your link should grouped under a specific category containing sites whose contents are related to yours. Such a grouping makes your listing more relevant in the eyes of the search engines, as well as providing an easier way for visitors to the directory to find your site.

Simply having your site listed on a directory is not enough. Your choice of the link title can determine how much impact your listing will have on your search engine rankings. Ideally, your link title (or "anchor text") should contain the keywords that you want others to search for to get to your site. Since most web directories require a unique link title, however, it may not be possible to select a common phrase like "Free Web Directory" as your link title. This title is likely already taken by another web directory. Simply prefixing the phrase with your domain name, e.g. "GoDirectory.org Free Web Directory", would make the title unique.

Oftentimes, a directory would have several related categories that are suitable for your site. How do you decide which one to submit to? Ideally, you'd want to submit to the category that has the highest PageRank. However, this may not turn out to be the wisest choice as your link may be buried among a zillion other listings. Going with a lower-PR category with fewer competing links may prove to be more beneficial. When choosing from multiple related categories, choose one with a good balance of relevancy, Pagerank, number of competing listings.

In sum, submitting to web directories is a highly effective link building strategy that should be an integral part of any search engine optimization campaign. Manually submitting to a large number of directories is both laborious and time-consuming. Just keep the above points in mind to make the most of your time.
